Research

Bayer CropScience has identified modification of NAD metabolism as a target for engineering improved tolerance to abiotic stresses. Inhibition of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) activity improves NAD and energy availability and alters stress-response signaling pathways (Vanderauwera et al (2007) PNAS 104, 15150-15155). The aim of the project is to investigate the role of SnRK1 in modulating NAD levels and redox balance, transcriptional and metabolic reprogramming and the consequences of these processes for plant abiotic stress tolerance.
